Luke Chan was a 15-year-old student from Catholic High School, who passed on November 8, after returning from a school trip to Shanghai. He started having diarrhoea while in Shanghai, but took medication and continued with the trip. After returning to Singapore, he showed signs of food poisoning but did not develop a fever, so a doctor was not consulted. On the night of November 7, he fainted and was taken to Tan Tock Seng hospital. He died in the early hours of November 8.
Luke was the only child in the family and was very well-behaved. His father describes him as active and a good student, winning scholarships and holding leadership positions. Luke’s ambition was to become a lawyer.

More than 100 loved ones, friends, and students and teachers from Catholic High braved heavy rain on the day of his funeral to take part in the funeral procession.
